Findings reveal that SMEs achieving sustainable competitive advantage exhibit three interconnected pathways (1) operational excellence through end-to-end digital process optimization and real-time performance monitoring, (2) customer-centric value creation via personalized offerings, omnichannel engagement, and rapid responsiveness, and (3) strategic flexibility enabled by scalable analytics that inform risk management, pricing, and product development under volatile market conditions. The research highlights challenges faced by SMEs, including resource constraints, data silos, cybersecurity concerns, talent shortages, and resistance to change, and offers a practical roadmap for overcoming them. A multilevel analysis demonstrates that the impact of digital transformation on competitive advantage is mediated by data governance maturity and moderated by organizational culture and external ecosystem collaboration.
