This longitudinal mixed-method study investigates how wearable fitness technology influences adolescent physical activity engagement and health literacy within school settings over one academic year, integrating quantitative activity metrics with qualitative insights from students, teachers, and parents. The study employs a randomized cluster design across multiple secondary schools, enrolling 1,200 students aged 13–18 who are provided with standardized wearable devices, accompanied by school-wide curricula on physical education, digital health literacy, and self-monitoring strategies. Quantitative data include daily step counts, active minutes, heart rate zones, device wear-time adherence, and changes in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), collected via the wearables and corroborated with accelerometry. Health literacy is assessed through validated instruments measuring knowledge of physical activity guidelines, interpretation of wearable feedback, risk awareness, and decision-making skills regarding safe exercise practices.
