Machiavellism in obasanjo’s political dispensation: a philosophical evaluation

Project Abstract

This research project delves into the concept of Machiavellism within the political dispensation of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, focusing on a philosophical evaluation of his leadership style and decision-making processes. Machiavellism, derived from the political theories of Niccolò Machiavelli, is synonymous with cunning, deceit, and the use of any means necessary to maintain power and control. In the context of Obasanjo's tenure as President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, this study seeks to analyze the extent to which Machiavellian principles were employed and their impact on governance, policies, and socio-political dynamics. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines political science, philosophy, and historical analysis, this research aims to explore the ethical implications of Machiavellism in Obasanjo's administration. By examining key events, policies, and decisions during his presidency, the study will assess whether his leadership can be characterized as Machiavellian and the consequences of such a leadership style on the Nigerian society and political landscape.
