Project Abstract

Mistletoe is a semi-parasitic plant that has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties. This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical composition and antimicrobial activity of mistletoe leaves. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of various bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The antimicrobial activity of mistletoe leaf extracts was evaluated against a panel of pathogenic microorganisms including bacteria and fungi. The results showed significant antimicrobial activity of mistletoe extracts, with strong inhibitory effects against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as various fungal strains. Further studies are needed to elucidate the specific bioactive compounds responsible for the antimicrobial activity observed in mistletoe leaves. Overall, this research highlights the potential of mistletoe as a natural source of antimicrobial agents that could be further developed for pharmaceutical and therapeutic applications.

Project Overview

<p> </p><p>The sample of Mistletoe leaves was collected from an orange tree at Ururo in Umunze Anambra State. The leaves was extracted by using some solvent like ethanolic solvent, aqueous solvent n-hexane solvent and ethyl acetate solvent. The extracts was further analyzed which helps in determining the presence of phytochemical compounds in the Mistletoe plant leaf, such as alkaloids, flavonoid, phenol, tannins, steroid and saponins. These phytochemical compounds are found to be antimicrobial active agents. Mystetoe Leaves</p><p>The efficiency of this plant in the treatment of various diseases necessitated the present work in order to identify the classes of natural products present in the leaf of the plant.
