Project Abstract
The hospital library plays a crucial role in supporting clinical decision-making processes in healthcare settings. This study aimed to investigate the impact of hospital libraries on clinical decision-making in Nigeria. The research was conducted through a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from healthcare professionals working in various hospitals across Nigeria. The findings of the study revealed that hospital libraries are valuable resources for healthcare professionals, providing access to a wide range of medical literature, research articles, guidelines, and other relevant information. The majority of the participants reported using the hospital library regularly to support their clinical decision-making process. They highlighted the importance of having access to up-to-date and reliable information to make informed decisions about patient care. Furthermore, the study identified several ways in which hospital libraries contribute to improving clinical decision-making. These include facilitating evidence-based practice, promoting continuous learning and professional development, and enhancing patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals emphasized that the resources available in hospital libraries help them stay current with the latest advancements in medicine and healthcare, enabling them to provide high-quality care to their patients. Despite the positive impact of hospital libraries on clinical decision-making, the study also identified some challenges and barriers that healthcare professionals face in utilizing these resources effectively. These include limited access to electronic resources, inadequate staff training on information retrieval, and time constraints due to heavy workloads. Addressing these challenges is crucial to ensure that hospital libraries continue to support clinical decision-making effectively. Overall, the study underscores the importance of hospital libraries in enhancing clinical decision-making in Nigeria. By providing access to valuable resources and promoting evidence-based practice, hospital libraries play a vital role in improving the quality of patient care. Moving forward, it is essential for healthcare institutions to invest in enhancing the infrastructure and resources of hospital libraries, as well as providing ongoing support and training to healthcare professionals to maximize the impact of these libraries on clinical decision-making processes.
