Project Abstract
Academic libraries play a crucial role in supporting the teaching and research activities of faculty members in institutions of higher education. However, there is a growing trend where faculty are moving away from traditional library resources in their curriculum development and teaching methods. This shift poses challenges for academic libraries in providing relevant services to support the changing needs of faculty and students. This research project aims to explore strategies for academic libraries to adapt and thrive in an environment where faculty are increasingly teaching a curriculum that draws less on library resources. By conducting interviews with faculty members, librarians, and students, this study seeks to identify the reasons behind the decreased reliance on library resources in teaching, as well as the preferences and expectations of faculty regarding library services. The findings of this research will provide insights into the changing dynamics between faculty and academic libraries, highlighting areas where libraries can enhance their services to better support faculty in their teaching endeavors. By understanding the factors driving the shift away from traditional library resources, librarians can tailor their services to meet the evolving needs of faculty and students. Through a comprehensive analysis of the data collected, this study will offer practical recommendations for academic libraries to reposition themselves as valuable partners in the teaching and learning process. By leveraging technology, updating collections, and providing targeted support services, libraries can demonstrate their relevance and adaptability in an environment where faculty are exploring new pedagogical approaches. Ultimately, this research project seeks to facilitate a dialogue between faculty and librarians to foster collaboration and innovation in the delivery of academic library services. By engaging with stakeholders and responding to their needs, libraries can ensure their continued relevance and impact in supporting the academic mission of their institutions. The insights gained from this study will contribute to the ongoing discussion on the future role of academic libraries in a rapidly changing educational landscape.
