Project Abstract
Libraries are increasingly playing a critical role in emergency response efforts, particularly during storms and other natural disasters. This research project focuses on the involvement of library staff as emergency responders, specifically in organizing and running resident information centers during emergencies. The study aims to explore the various aspects of this role, including the training and preparedness of library staff, the coordination with local emergency management agencies, and the impact on the community. Through a combination of qualitative interviews, surveys, and observations, this research seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and successes faced by library staff in their emergency response roles. By examining case studies of libraries that have been actively involved in resident information centers during storms and emergencies, the study aims to identify best practices and lessons learned that can guide future emergency response efforts. Key areas of investigation include the training and education of library staff in emergency response procedures, the development of partnerships with local agencies and organizations, and the utilization of library resources and facilities during emergencies. The research also seeks to assess the effectiveness of resident information centers in providing timely and accurate information to the community, as well as their role in promoting resilience and preparedness among residents. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the role of libraries in emergency response and disaster management. By highlighting the valuable contributions of library staff as emergency responders, the study aims to raise awareness of the vital role that libraries play in ensuring the safety and well-being of communities during times of crisis. Overall, this research project aims to shed light on the important work of library staff in organizing and running resident information centers during storms and emergencies. By examining the challenges and successes experienced by library staff in this role, the study seeks to provide insights that can inform future emergency response efforts and enhance the resilience of communities in the face of disasters.
