Information needs of petty traders

Project Abstract

Petty traders play a crucial role in the economy by providing goods and services to local communities. Despite their significance, there is limited research on the information needs of petty traders. This study aims to investigate the information requirements of petty traders, focusing on the types of information they seek, the sources they utilize, and the challenges they face in accessing relevant information. A mixed-methods approach will be employed, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from petty traders in various markets. The survey will gather quantitative data on the specific types of information that petty traders require to run their businesses effectively. This will include information on market trends, pricing, customer preferences, and competitors. The interviews will provide a deeper understanding of how petty traders use information in their day-to-day operations and the challenges they encounter in obtaining the information they need. The findings of this research will contribute to a better understanding of the information needs of petty traders and inform strategies to support them in accessing relevant information. By identifying the key information gaps and challenges faced by petty traders, policymakers and support organizations can develop targeted interventions to improve access to information for this important sector of the economy.
