The study identifies key channels direct food production contributing to year-round availability, reduction in purchase frequency of nutrient-poor foods, and enhanced household income resilience through potential surplus sales. Barriers to adoption include limited access to quality seeds, water constraints, labor bottlenecks, and lack of technical guidance on optimal crop combinations and preservation methods. Policy implications emphasize the need for targeted extension services, subsidized starter kits, and community-based water harvesting and storage solutions to sustain gains. The research contributes to the literature by providing robust quasi-experimental estimates of the nutritional and economic benefits of home-based food production in rural settings, while highlighting gender-differentiated impacts and the role of social capital in sustaining practice. Recommendations include promoting integrative kitchen garden programs within existing rural development initiatives, integrating nutrition education and crop diversification strategies, and developing monitoring indicators to track long-term outcomes on household food security and expenditure. The study also suggests avenues for future research, such as longitudinal assessments to capture seasonal fluctuations, exploration of climate-smart garden practices, and analysis of spillover effects on neighboring households and local markets.
