Project Abstract
The concept of a sustainable life path has gained significant attention in recent years as individuals and societies increasingly recognize the importance of balancing economic prosperity, social well-being, and environmental protection. This research project aims to explore the various dimensions of the sustainable life path concept, focusing on how individuals can make conscious choices that lead to a more sustainable and fulfilling life. The study involves a comprehensive literature review to understand the key components of a sustainable life path, including aspects such as personal well-being, community engagement, environmental stewardship, and economic resilience. By examining existing research and theories on sustainability, happiness, and quality of life, this project seeks to develop a holistic framework for understanding and promoting sustainable living practices. One of the main objectives of this research is to investigate the role of individual behavior and lifestyle choices in shaping a sustainable life path. By analyzing case studies and empirical data, the study will identify best practices and strategies that can help individuals align their values and actions with sustainable principles. This includes examining the impact of consumption patterns, transportation choices, and housing decisions on overall sustainability outcomes. Furthermore, the research project will explore the intersection between personal well-being and sustainability, considering how factors such as health, happiness, and social relationships influence the pursuit of a sustainable life path. By integrating concepts from psychology, sociology, and environmental studies, the study aims to provide a more nuanced understanding of the motivations and barriers to adopting sustainable lifestyles. In addition, the project will investigate the role of communities and institutions in supporting sustainable life paths. This includes examining the importance of social networks, policy interventions, and infrastructure development in creating environments that facilitate sustainable living practices. By engaging with stakeholders from various sectors, the research aims to identify opportunities for collaboration and innovation in promoting sustainable development at the individual and collective levels. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the evolving discourse on sustainable living by offering insights into how individuals can navigate the complexities of modern life while staying true to their values and aspirations. By highlighting the interconnectedness of personal well-being, community engagement, and environmental responsibility, the study aims to inspire positive change towards a more sustainable and equitable future.

INTRODUCTION

This think piece (concept paper) develops the idea that a construct is needed to help people view consumption as a journey, a complex, lifelong process, rather than a series of discrete, separate, cumulative events (shopping trips).

The sustainable life path concept is introduced and developed through the conceptual integration of the sister-concepts of voluntary simplicity, living simply, life intentions, and life acumen, grounded in the idea of an examined and engaged, purposeful life. Reframing consumption as unfolding along a sustainable life path, perceiving consumers as pathfinders, and framing consumption as a lifelong journey are offered as conceptual innovations.
