Project Abstract

Microplastics have become a significant environmental concern due to their widespread presence and potential adverse effects on aquatic ecosystems. This research project aims to assess microplastics pollution in freshwater ecosystems, specifically focusing on their distribution, abundance, and potential sources in a selected freshwater body. The study will employ a combination of field sampling, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation to achieve its objectives. Chapter One introduces the research by providing background information on microplastics pollution, highlighting the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and definition of key terms. The literature review in Chapter Two delves into ten key aspects related to microplastics pollution in freshwater ecosystems, including sources, impacts, detection methods, and regulatory frameworks. Chapter Three details the research methodology, outlining the sampling techniques, laboratory analysis procedures, quality control measures, data management, and statistical analysis methods employed in the study. The findings from the fieldwork and laboratory analysis are comprehensively discussed in Chapter Four, covering seven key aspects such as microplastics abundance, distribution patterns, polymer types, and potential sources identified in the freshwater ecosystem under study.
