Project Abstract

This research study aims to assess the impact of mobile technology on agricultural extension services in rural communities. The use of mobile technology in agriculture has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential to improve communication, knowledge sharing, and access to agricultural information among farmers in remote areas. This study investigates how mobile technology is being utilized in agricultural extension services and evaluates its effectiveness in enhancing agricultural productivity and livelihoods in rural communities. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector. A sample of farmers, extension workers, and agricultural experts from selected rural communities was involved in the study to gather data on the adoption and utilization of mobile technology in agricultural extension services. The data collected was analyzed using statistical tools and thematic analysis to identify patterns, trends, and key findings. The literature review provides a comprehensive overview of the role of mobile technology in agricultural extension services, highlighting its benefits and challenges in enhancing farmer knowledge, skills, and practices. The review also examines the existing frameworks and models for implementing mobile-based extension services and identifies gaps in the current literature that warrant further investigation. The findings of the study reveal that mobile technology has a positive impact on agricultural extension services in rural communities. Farmers reported improved access to timely and relevant agricultural information, extension services, market prices, and weather forecasts through mobile applications and platforms. Extension workers also noted increased efficiency in disseminating information and providing advisory services to farmers using mobile technology. However, the study also identified several challenges and limitations in the adoption and use of mobile technology in agricultural extension services, including limited network coverage, high costs of data services, and low digital literacy among farmers. These barriers hinder the full potential of mobile technology in reaching and benefiting all farmers in rural communities. In conclusion, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the impact of mobile technology on agricultural extension services in rural communities. The findings underscore the importance of addressing the challenges and constraints in the adoption of mobile technology to maximize its benefits for smallholder farmers and improve agricultural productivity in remote areas. Recommendations are provided for policymakers, extension agencies, and technology developers to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of mobile-based agricultural extension services in rural communities.
