Assessment of Community-Based Agricultural Extension Strategies for Sustainable Crop Production Enhancement

Project Abstract

This study critically examines the effectiveness and sustainability of community-based agricultural extension strategies in enhancing crop production among smallholder farmers. Employing a mixed-methods research approach, the investigation integrates quantitative data obtained through structured questionnaires administered to a representative sample of farmers, with qualitative insights garnered from focus group discussions and key informant interviews. The primary goal was to evaluate how locally adapted extension approaches influence farmers’ adoption rates of recommended practices, their access to information, and overall productivity outcomes. The study also aims to identify the key factors that facilitate or hinder community-driven extension initiatives, emphasizing the role of social capital, local leadership, resource availability, and communication channels. The research concludes with practical recommendations aimed at policymakers, extension agencies, and community organizations to optimize the deployment of community-centric strategies for crop production enhancement. Emphasizing sustainability, the study advocates for an integrative approach that combines indigenous knowledge systems with scientific innovations, facilitated through participatory extension models.
