Project Abstract
This research project focused on the assessment of agricultural extension workers in enhancing farmers' yields in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of agricultural extension services in improving agricultural productivity among farmers in the selected area. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to gather comprehensive insights into the topic. The quantitative aspect of the study involved survey questionnaires administered to 150 farmers in Chikun Local Government Area to collect data on their interactions with agricultural extension workers, the services received, and the impact on their agricultural productivity. The qualitative component included in-depth interviews with key stakeholders such as agricultural extension workers, agricultural officers, and community leaders to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the agricultural extension system. The findings of the study revealed that agricultural extension workers play a crucial role in disseminating agricultural information, technologies, and best practices to farmers in Chikun Local Government Area. Farmers who had frequent interactions with extension workers reported higher yields and better agricultural practices compared to those with limited contact. The study also identified challenges faced by extension workers, including inadequate resources, lack of training, and limited reach to remote farming communities. Overall, the study underscores the importance of strengthening the agricultural extension system in Chikun Local Government Area to enhance farmers' yields and livelihoods. Recommendations based on the research findings include improving the training and capacity-building of extension workers, increasing their mobility and access to resources, and fostering collaboration between extension workers, farmers, and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector. In conclusion, this research project provides valuable insights into the role of agricultural extension workers in enhancing farmers' yields in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. By understanding the challenges and opportunities in the agricultural extension system, policymakers, agricultural officers, and other stakeholders can work together to improve agricultural productivity, food security, and farmers' livelihoods in the region.
