Project Abstract

This research study aims to assess the effectiveness of mobile technology in enhancing agricultural extension services for smallholder farmers. In recent years, mobile technology has emerged as a powerful tool for improving communication and knowledge dissemination in the agricultural sector. Smallholder farmers, who often lack access to traditional extension services, can benefit greatly from the use of mobile technology to receive timely and relevant information on farming practices, market prices, weather forecasts, and other important topics. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, including both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A survey will be administered to a sample of smallholder farmers to gather information on their current use of mobile technology for agricultural purposes, as well as their preferences and needs in terms of extension services. In addition, in-depth interviews will be conducted with agricultural extension workers and other key stakeholders to gain insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with using mobile technology in agricultural extension. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights into the potential of mobile technology to enhance agricultural extension services for smallholder farmers. By understanding the current usage patterns, preferences, and challenges faced by both farmers and extension workers, recommendations can be made for the design and implementation of mobile-based extension services that are tailored to the specific needs of smallholder farmers.
