Stress and cardiovascular health are critical concerns among college students, contributing significantly to academic performance, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. This study investigates the impact of mindfulness meditation on stress response and cardiovascular health among college students, aiming to assess whether regular mindfulness practices can serve as an effective intervention to mitigate stress-related physiological effects. A quasi-experimental research design was employed, involving 150 college students randomly assigned to either an intervention group practicing mindfulness meditation or a control group engaging in their usual activities. The intervention lasted for eight weeks, during which the mindfulness group participated in guided meditation sessions of 30 minutes, three times weekly. Pre- and post-intervention measures included validated stress assessment questionnaires (such as the Perceived Stress Scale), physiological parameters (heart rate variability, blood pressure), and biochemical markers (cortisol levels). Data analysis involved paired t-tests, ANCOVA, and regression analysis to determine significant differences and relationships among variables. The findings revealed a statistically significant reduction in perceived stress levels in the mindfulness group compared to controls (p < 0.01). Physiologically, participants practicing mindfulness exhibited improved heart rate variability and lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressures (p < 0.05), indicating enhanced autonomic nervous system regulation and cardiovascular function. Cortisol levels, a biomarker for stress, were markedly decreased in the mindfulness group post-intervention, suggesting a dampening of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis hyperactivity associated with prolonged stress. Furthermore, correlation analysis demonstrated that reductions in perceived stress were positively associated with improvements in cardiovascular parameters, underscoring the potential of mindfulness meditation to foster resilience against stress-induced cardiovascular dysregulation. The study concludes that mindfulness meditation is a feasible and effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing stress and improving cardiovascular health among college students. It underscores the importance of incorporating mindfulness training within academic settings to combat stress-related health issues. The findings contribute to the growing body of evidence advocating for mindfulness-based programs as accessible, low-cost strategies for promoting mental and physical health in young populations. Limitations include the short duration of intervention and reliance on self-reported adherence to meditation practice, suggesting the need for further longitudinal studies to assess long-term impacts.
