Regular aerobic exercise has been widely recognized for its numerous benefits on cardiovascular health, yet its specific effects on autonomic regulation of the heart in young adults remain inadequately explored. This study aims to evaluate the impact of structured aerobic exercise programs on cardiovascular autonomic function among young adults aged 18-25 years. Utilizing a quantitative research approach, data were collected from 100 participants randomly assigned to an exercise group and a control group over a period of 12 weeks. The exercise group engaged in moderate-intensity aerobic activities, such as brisk walking, jogging, and cycling, for 45 minutes, three times per week, while the control group maintained their usual routines without additional physical activity. Autonomic function was assessed through heart rate variability (HRV) analysis, measured at baseline, mid-intervention, and post-intervention phases, using portable HRV monitors. Parameters such as time-domain indices (e.g., SDNN, RMSSD) and frequency-domain indices (e.g., LF, HF, LF/HF ratio) were analyzed to determine autonomic balance and reactivity. The study employed paired t-tests and ANOVA for statistical comparisons, with significance set at p<0.05. Results indicated significant improvements in HRV measures within the exercise group, characterized by increased SDNN and RMSSD, suggesting enhanced parasympathetic activity. Additionally, a notable decrease in the LF/HF ratio indicated a favorable shift towards parasympathetic dominance, which is associated with better cardiovascular health and resilience to stress. No significant changes were observed in the control group. These findings suggest that regular aerobic exercise can positively modulate autonomic cardiovascular regulation in young adults, potentially reducing future cardiovascular risks. The implications of this study extend to health promotion strategies emphasizing aerobic activity among young populations to foster long-term autonomic health.
