Assessment of Parental Knowledge and Practices Related to Childhood Vaccinations

Project Abstract

This research project focuses on the assessment of parental knowledge and practices related to childhood vaccinations. Childhood vaccinations are crucial in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and ensuring the health and well-being of children. However, parental knowledge and practices play a significant role in determining the success of vaccination programs. This study aims to evaluate the level of parental knowledge regarding childhood vaccinations, explore the factors influencing parental vaccination practices, and assess the impact of these practices on vaccination coverage rates. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, involving both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A structured questionnaire will be administered to parents to assess their knowledge of childhood vaccinations, attitudes towards vaccination, and vaccination practices. In addition, in-depth interviews will be conducted with a subset of parents to further explore the factors influencing their vaccination decisions. The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of existing research on parental knowledge and practices related to childhood vaccinations. This review will highlight the importance of parental education, healthcare provider recommendations, and socio-cultural factors in shaping parental vaccination behaviors. The research methodology will include sampling procedures, data collection methods, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations. The study will involve a sample of parents with children aged 0-5 years from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Data analysis will involve both quantitative analysis of survey responses and thematic analysis of interview transcripts. The findings of the study will be discussed in Chapter Four, which will present the results of the survey and interviews. The analysis will highlight patterns in parental knowledge and practices related to childhood vaccinations, identify common misconceptions and barriers to vaccination, and explore the role of healthcare providers in promoting vaccination. In conclusion, this research project aims to contribute to the existing literature on parental knowledge and practices related to childhood vaccinations. By understanding the factors influencing parental vaccination decisions, healthcare providers and policymakers can develop targeted interventions to improve vaccination coverage rates and promote public health. The study findings will have implications for vaccination programs, health education initiatives, and policy development aimed at enhancing parental awareness and adherence to childhood vaccination recommendations.
