Telehealth Interventions for Managing Chronic Pain in Elderly Patients

Chronic pain is a prevalent and complex health challenge among the elderly, significantly impacting their quality of life, functional ability, and mental health. Traditional management approaches often involve in-person visits, pharmacological treatments, and physical therapy, which can pose barriers such as mobility issues, transportation difficulties, and accessibility constraints, especially in rural or underserved areas. The advent of telehealth technology offers promising alternative solutions by enabling remote assessment, monitoring, and management of chronic pain conditions, thus enhancing healthcare accessibility and continuity for elderly patients. This study investigates the effectiveness, acceptance, and challenges of telehealth interventions tailored for managing chronic pain in the elderly population. A mixed-method research approach was employed, comprising quantitative analysis of clinical outcomes and qualitative interviews to explore patient and healthcare provider perspectives. The quantitative component involved a randomized controlled trial with elderly participants subjected to telehealth-based pain management programs, measuring outcomes such as pain intensity, functional status, medication use, and psychological well-being over a six-month period.
