Project Abstract
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has significantly transformed the landscape of news dissemination, with radio being one of the key mediums impacted by these advancements. This research project aims to explore the multifaceted impact of ICT on radio news in terms of production, distribution, and audience engagement. The study will delve into how ICT tools and platforms have revolutionized the gathering and processing of news for radio stations. From digital recording equipment to newsroom software, technology has streamlined the production process, enabling quicker turnaround times and improved content quality. Additionally, the integration of social media and online resources has expanded the pool of information accessible to radio journalists, enhancing the depth and accuracy of news reporting. Furthermore, the distribution of radio news has been greatly influenced by ICT developments. The advent of podcasting and online streaming services has extended the reach of radio programs beyond traditional airwaves. With listeners able to access news content on-demand through various digital channels, radio stations have had to adapt their distribution strategies to cater to evolving audience preferences. Moreover, ICT has revolutionized audience engagement with radio news. Interactive features such as live call-ins, social media polls, and online forums have transformed news consumption into a participatory experience. Listeners can now provide real-time feedback, contribute to discussions, and even become sources for news stories, blurring the lines between producers and consumers of news content. In conclusion, the impact of ICT on radio news is profound and far-reaching. This research project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of how technology has reshaped the production, distribution, and consumption of news in the radio industry. By examining the benefits and challenges associated with these changes, this study seeks to offer insights into the evolving role of radio in the digital age and inform strategies for optimizing the integration of ICT in news broadcasting.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Broadcasting has been at the forefront of many technological changes, mostly in digitalization and enhancement of existing technology. For example, digital technology now permits listeners to obtain traffic information and news per se, while listening to a cassette, compact disc or radio station etc. (Church Akpan 2006).

We are all living in a changing world, and over the past many ears we have been conditioned to accept changes in the way we think and relate. Thus, communication between the peoples of the world which sounded utopist before is now becoming a reality in or very eyes giving practical meaning to Marshall Mollohan’sviewofthe world ad a global village interlinked by communication technologies, (Mc Lucan, 1964.
