Analyzing the Impact of Information Literacy Instruction on Student Research Skills in Academic Libraries

Project Abstract

Information literacy skills are essential for students to succeed in their academic pursuits. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of information literacy instruction on student research skills in academic libraries. In recent years, academic libraries have been playing a crucial role in providing information literacy programs to help students develop the necessary skills for effective research. However, the effectiveness of these programs in enhancing student research skills remains a topic of debate. This research project will investigate the relationship between information literacy instruction and student research skills by examining the experiences and perceptions of students who have participated in such programs. The study will be conducted in a selected academic library, where data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observation of information literacy sessions. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, including the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and definition of terms. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review on information literacy instruction, student research skills, and the impact of library programs on student learning outcomes. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, including the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and limitations of the research methodology. In Chapter 4, the findings of the study are presented and analyzed in detail. The results will highlight the impact of information literacy instruction on student research skills, including improvements in information seeking, evaluation, and use of sources. The chapter will also discuss any challenges or barriers faced by students in developing these skills. Chapter 5 concludes the research project by summarizing the key findings, discussing the implications for academic libraries and higher education institutions, and suggesting recommendations for future research. The study aims to contribute to the existing literature on information literacy and student research skills, providing insights for librarians, educators, and policymakers to enhance the effectiveness of information literacy programs in academic libraries.
