Project Abstract

The design and construction of a dual-powered heat treatment furnace aims to provide a versatile and efficient solution for industrial heat treatment processes. This project involves the integration of both electric and gas heating systems to offer flexibility in operation and energy efficiency. The furnace design includes multiple heating zones to allow for precise temperature control and uniform heating of workpieces. The construction materials selected ensure durability and thermal insulation to optimize heat retention and minimize heat loss during operation. The control system of the furnace is designed to provide user-friendly interfaces for setting and monitoring temperature profiles, as well as safety features to prevent overheating and ensure operational reliability. The dual-powered heat treatment furnace is expected to meet the heat treatment requirements of a variety of materials and components used in different industries, offering a cost-effective and sustainable solution for heat treatment processes.

Heat-treatment which is one of the primary routes of developing microstructures requires the use of furnaces to be able to attain desired temperatures, heating and cooling rates; and holding environments required to induce phase transformations (Dossee and Boyer, 1997). Heat treatment furnaces with effective temperature sensing, heat retaining capacity and controlled environment are necessary for heat-treatment operations to be successfully performed. Some of the processes require heating cycles for durations spanning a few minutes to several hours depending of the material and the properties desired (George, 2002; Netsushori, 1998).</p> <br><p></p>
