Project Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health in adults through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Cardiovascular diseases remain a major health concern globally, with dietary factors playing a significant role in the development and management of these conditions. Plant-based diets, characterized by a higher intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, have been associated with numerous health benefits, including reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, the specific effects of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health outcomes in adult populations have not been extensively studied. The systematic review will involve a comprehensive search of electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, to identify relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals. Studies that investigate the association between plant-based diets and cardiovascular health outcomes in adult populations will be included in the review. Data extraction will be conducted independently by two reviewers, and methodological quality will be assessed using established tools. The meta-analysis will synthesize the findings from the included studies to quantify the overall effect of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health outcomes, such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and incidence of cardiovascular events. Subgroup analyses will be conducted to explore potential sources of heterogeneity, including age, gender, and study design. Sensitivity analyses will be performed to assess the robustness of the results. The results of this research project will provide valuable insights into the impact of plant-based diets on cardiovascular health in adults and contribute to the existing body of evidence on dietary interventions for preventing and managing cardiovascular diseases. The findings may have implications for public health policies and clinical practice, highlighting the importance of promoting plant-based diets as a means of improving cardiovascular health outcomes in adult populations. Overall, this research project seeks to advance our understanding of the role of plant-based diets in cardiovascular health and provide evidence-based recommendations for individuals, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to support the adoption of plant-based dietary patterns for the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases in adults.
