Project Abstract
The prevalence of stress among college athletes has raised concerns about their mental and physical well-being. Mindfulness training has emerged as a promising intervention for stress management, with potential benefits for athletes facing the demands of high-performance sports and academic responsibilities. This study aimed to investigate the impact of mindfulness training on stress management among college athletes through a randomized controlled trial. The research design involved a sample of college athletes randomly assigned to either a mindfulness training group or a control group. The mindfulness training group received a structured program focused on cultivating present-moment awareness and non-judgmental acceptance of their experiences. Stress levels were assessed using standardized measures before and after the intervention to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness training in reducing stress among college athletes. The findings revealed a significant reduction in perceived stress levels among college athletes who underwent mindfulness training compared to those in the control group. Participants in the mindfulness training group reported improved emotional regulation, increased self-awareness, and enhanced coping strategies for managing stressors in their athletic and academic environments. These outcomes suggest that mindfulness training can be a valuable tool for enhancing stress management skills and promoting overall well-being among college athletes. The implications of these findings underscore the importance of integrating mindfulness-based interventions into the holistic support systems for college athletes. By incorporating mindfulness training as part of their routine practices, athletes can develop resilience, improve performance, and maintain a healthy balance between their athletic and academic commitments. This research contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy of mindfulness training in promoting mental health and well-being among college athletes. In conclusion, the results of this randomized controlled trial demonstrate the positive impact of mindfulness training on stress management among college athletes. Future research should explore the long-term effects of mindfulness interventions on athletic performance, injury prevention, and overall psychological health in collegiate sports settings. By prioritizing the mental well-being of athletes through mindfulness training, universities and sports organizations can create a supportive environment that fosters optimal performance and holistic development among college athletes.
