Project Abstract
Counselling is a profession that involves providing support and guidance to individuals facing various challenges in their lives. However, counsellors often experience high levels of stress due to the emotional demands of their work. This research project focuses on the importance of counselling training in equipping counsellors with the necessary skills to cope with stress in the counselling relationship. The study aims to explore the impact of stress on counsellors and the effectiveness of counselling training in helping them manage and cope with this stress. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized, involving both qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys to gather data from practicing counsellors. The qualitative data will provide insights into the experiences of counsellors in managing stress, while the quantitative data will allow for the measurement of stress levels and the effectiveness of counselling training interventions. The research will also examine the specific components of counselling training that are most beneficial in helping counsellors cope with stress. This may include training in self-care strategies, mindfulness techniques, and emotional regulation skills. By identifying the most effective training strategies, this study aims to provide recommendations for enhancing counselling education programs to better support the well-being of counsellors. Furthermore, the research will explore the impact of counsellor stress on the counselling relationship and the quality of care provided to clients. By understanding how stress can affect the therapeutic process, counselling training programs can be tailored to address these challenges and improve overall outcomes for both counsellors and clients. Overall, this research project seeks to highlight the importance of counselling training in promoting the well-being of counsellors and enhancing the quality of counselling services. By equipping counsellors with the necessary skills to cope with stress, training programs can help reduce burnout, improve job satisfaction, and ultimately benefit the clients who rely on counselling services for support.
