transitioning to renewable and distributed energy microgrids

Project Abstract

<p><br><br><br>As concerns grow over climate change and energy security, there is a need to transition from large, centralized fossil fuel power plants to more sustainable, distributed energy systems. One promising solution is the development of renewable energy microgrids. A microgrid is a localized group of electricity sources and loads that can disconnect from the traditional grid and operate autonomously. This project will evaluate the potential for microgrids powered by renewable sources like solar, wind, hydropower and biomass to provide reliable, low-carbon energy at the community level. An overview of existing microgrid projects will be provided, along with the technical, economic and regulatory barriers to greater adoption. Recommendations will be made for policies and programs to support the transition to renewable microgrids as a way to increase energy access, resilience and sustainability.<br><br><br></p>
