Project Abstract

Sustainable consumption is becoming increasingly important in the face of global environmental challenges. This research project explores the concept of sustainable consumption and its implications for individuals, businesses, and society as a whole. The study investigates the current patterns of consumption and their impacts on the environment, highlighting the need for a shift towards more sustainable practices. Through a comprehensive literature review, this research examines various strategies and initiatives that promote sustainable consumption, such as eco-friendly products, recycling programs, and energy-efficient technologies. The role of consumers in driving sustainable consumption is also analyzed, emphasizing the importance of awareness, education, and behavioral changes. Furthermore, the research delves into the challenges and barriers to sustainable consumption, including economic factors, cultural norms, and lack of infrastructure. By identifying these obstacles, the study aims to propose recommendations and solutions to promote more sustainable consumption patterns. The methodology employed in this research includes both qualitative and quantitative approaches, such as surveys, interviews, and case studies. By gathering data from multiple sources, the study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of sustainable consumption practices and their effectiveness in achieving environmental goals. Overall, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable consumption and offers insights into how individuals, businesses, and policymakers can work together to create a more sustainable future. By promoting awareness, encouraging responsible consumption, and implementing policy changes, society can move towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly model of consumption.

Project Overview

<p> </p><p>INTRODUCTION</p><p>The law introduces a Policy for Education on Sustainable Consumption in order to “encourage adoption of consumer practices and production techniques that are ecologically sustainable” (Art 1).</p><p>The law defines “sustainable consumption” as “use of natural resources in order to provide quality of life for the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations” (Art 1.1) and it includes among its nine key objectives the”promotion of reduction in consumption of water, energy and other renewable and non-renewable natural resources at the household level and from production, commerce and services” (Art 2.II).</p><p>Other objectives include: promoting re-use of and recycling of packaging and products to reduce solid waste and hazardous waste (Art 2.III-IV); encouraging companies to incorporate social, cultural and environmental dimensions in their production and management processes and better management of the whole life cycle of products (Art 2.V-VI); and ensuring the right to information and promotion of environmental labeling and certification (Art 2.VIII).</p><p>To achieve these objectives, federal, state and municipal governments are called on to carry out public awareness and media campaigns and train teachers on including sustainable consumption in their curriculum for primary and secondary education (Art 3.I-II).</p> <br><p></p>
