Dirty, sacred rivers: confronting south asia’s water crisis

Project Abstract

South Asia faces a severe water crisis, exacerbated by pollution and contamination of its sacred rivers. This research project aims to confront these challenges through a multidisciplinary approach that combines environmental science, cultural studies, and policy analysis. By examining the interplay between religious beliefs, industrial development, and government policies, this study seeks to understand the root causes of water pollution in the region. Fieldwork will be conducted along major rivers such as the Ganges and Yamuna, interviewing stakeholders from local communities, industries, and government agencies. The research findings will contribute to a better understanding of the complex dynamics shaping South Asia's water crisis and inform the development of sustainable solutions. By engaging with local communities and policymakers, this project seeks to raise awareness about the importance of preserving these sacred rivers and promote initiatives for their restoration and protection.
