Project Abstract

Land use changes are a critical aspect of environmental management and sustainable development. This research project aims to assess the patterns and drivers of land use changes in a specific region over the past two decades. The study utilizes remote sensing data, geographic information systems (GIS), and statistical analysis to quantify and analyze the changes in land use types such as agriculture, urban areas, forests, and water bodies. The research methodology involves the acquisition of satellite imagery from different time periods to track land use changes. These images are processed and classified using supervised and unsupervised classification techniques to identify and map different land cover types. GIS tools are then employed to analyze the spatial patterns and trends of land use changes over time. Furthermore, the study examines the drivers and factors influencing these land use changes. Through a combination of field surveys, interviews with stakeholders, and literature review, the research identifies key drivers such as population growth, economic activities, policy interventions, and natural disasters. By understanding these drivers, the project aims to provide insights into the underlying causes of land use changes and their implications for environmental sustainability and resource management. The results of this research are expected to contribute to the knowledge base on land use dynamics and provide valuable information for policymakers, land planners, and environmental managers. By quantifying the extent and nature of land use changes, the study will help in identifying areas that are experiencing rapid transformation and potential conflicts in land use. This information can guide decision-making processes towards sustainable land use practices and conservation efforts. In conclusion, the assessment of land use changes is essential for monitoring environmental impacts, planning for sustainable development, and mitigating conflicts over land resources. By utilizing remote sensing, GIS, and statistical analysis, this research project aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the patterns, drivers, and implications of land use changes in a specific region. The findings will contribute to the broader understanding of land use dynamics and support evidence-based decision-making for sustainable land management.

Project Overview

INTRODUCTION

The only constant thing in life is change. The land use of a place tend to change due to the nature and type of activities of its inhabitants.

These changes over time have significant effect on the environment. The positive and negative indication of such changes need to be noticed before the settlement decay. In this research work, the land use change indicators are assessed and solutions are proffered to mitigate the negative effects of such changes.
