Project Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the influence of music on language acquisition in children as perceived by primary school teachers in Oyun LGA, Kwara State. The research focused on exploring the beliefs, experiences, and observations of primary school teachers regarding the effects of music on language learning among their students. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews with ten primary school teachers as the primary data collection method. The findings revealed that the majority of primary school teachers in Oyun LGA, Kwara State, perceived music as having a positive influence on language acquisition in children. Teachers reported that music helped enhance vocabulary development, pronunciation, and overall language comprehension among students. They also noted that music facilitated a more engaging and interactive learning environment, leading to increased motivation and participation in language activities. Furthermore, teachers highlighted the role of music in promoting cultural awareness and diversity among children, as exposure to different musical styles and languages through songs enriched their language learning experience. The study also uncovered that incorporating music into language lessons contributed to improving memory retention and recall of vocabulary and grammatical structures. Despite the positive perceptions of music's impact on language acquisition, some teachers expressed challenges in integrating music effectively into their teaching practices due to limited resources, time constraints, and lack of training in music education. Recommendations were made for the inclusion of music education in teacher training programs and the provision of resources and support to help teachers implement music-based activities in the classroom. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that music plays a significant role in enhancing language acquisition among children, as perceived by primary school teachers in Oyun LGA, Kwara State. Understanding and harnessing the potential of music in language learning can lead to more effective and engaging teaching practices that benefit students' linguistic development. Further research is recommended to explore the specific mechanisms through which music influences language acquisition and to develop practical strategies for integrating music into language education programs.

Music on the other hand while being seen as human specific and universal, is often viewed as a secondary skill one which is predicated and draws it’s origin from and in language. However, when viewed critically it is often seen and arguably so that language is a systematically and universal kind of music in itself. A couple of recent studies into the roles of music and its application reveals that it is fundamental to language learning.</p><p>At any rate, music us seen as a universal human skill and specific to humans as well one you which every human who is born healthy is also born with the innate ability to produce or at least to appreciate.</p><p>However, in its level of application, music is often viewed in this regard as only applicable in the case of a slower cognitive development and while this is true to a great extent, it doesn’t excuse the fact that its role especially in language acquisition cannot be over emphasized.</p><p><strong>1.2 </strong><strong>Statement of the Problem</strong></p><p>The application and significance of music in language learning especially in a young child has always been suspected to be integral to the process. So that the research seeks to prove with its thorough study the correctness of this hypothesis.</p><p><strong>1.7 </strong><strong>Scope of the Study</strong></p><p>The research work will focus its study on teachers and pupils at primary school level and see to what extent music can be introduced in teaching language to them in practical terms. However, references might be made to the significance and use of music for the same purpose for kindergarten levels and comparing it with primary level one hopes to see the graduation and relevance of music in language learning.</p><p><strong>1.8 </strong><strong>Limitations of the Study</strong></p><p>The major limitations of this research work is firstly the time factor to complete the required study within the given time irrespective of the volume of research that should go into the work.
