Using ecumenical education to harmonize nigerian citizens

Project Abstract

<p> Ecumenical education gears towards accepting or practicing ecumenism which is tolerance for other religions. There are many segregation and turmoils in the world as a result of inability to use the spirit of empathy and see your neighbor as yourself. There have been religious clashes in Nigeria because the Christians and Muslim don’t want to compromise or understand themselves. Religion is responsible for moral values but also responsible for discrimination and violence all over the world. This study recommends ecumenical education as the basis for harmonizing Nigerian citizens. <br></p>

<p> </p><p><strong>1. 0 INTRODUCTION</strong></p><p><strong>1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY</strong></p><p>Nigerian socio-economic system is in shambles because of inappropriate approach towards solving educational problems. Valuable democratic principles are not practiced in our educational system. People no longer live with the spirit of brotherhood. Youths in Nigeria wants to ascertain their individuality through deviating from the social norms, engaging in examination malpractice, robbery, violence, kidnapping, wearing indecent clothes and cultism. All these problems are as a result of lack of orientation towards ecumenical education.</p><p><strong>1.2 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY</strong></p><p>This study seeks to look into exposing ecumenical education as the solution to harmonizing and developing Nigerian youths.</p><p><strong>1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY</strong></p><p>The study is important because it will help to enlighten our educational administrators and curriculum planners, parents and teachers on the right approach in relating with young people and also on the right dimension to follow in order to solve the existing problems in Nigeria.</p><p><strong>1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS</strong></p><p>1) In what ways can we implant the spirit of caringness, belongingness, cooperation and collaboration among Nigerians ?</p><p>2) To what extent can ecumenical values help to improve youth’s behavior in various schools?</p> <br><p></p>
