Project Abstract
Unemployment remains a critical issue in Nigeria, with a significant portion of the population struggling to find sustainable employment opportunities. This research project explores the potential of critical, creative, and caring thinking as a solution to address unemployment challenges in Nigeria. By integrating these three thinking frameworks, individuals can develop a holistic approach to navigating the job market and creating opportunities for themselves and others. Critical thinking involves the ability to analyze information, evaluate situations, and make informed decisions. In the context of unemployment, individuals can use critical thinking skills to assess job market trends, identify in-demand skills, and tailor their education and training to meet these needs. By critically evaluating their own strengths and weaknesses, individuals can also pinpoint areas for improvement and development to enhance their employability. Creative thinking is essential for generating innovative solutions to complex problems such as unemployment. By fostering creativity, individuals can think outside the box, explore new possibilities, and create unique opportunities for employment. Whether through entrepreneurship, freelance work, or unconventional career paths, creative thinking enables individuals to carve out their niche in the job market and differentiate themselves from competitors. Caring thinking emphasizes empathy, compassion, and social responsibility in decision-making processes. In the context of unemployment, caring thinking encourages individuals to consider the broader societal impact of their actions and choices. By prioritizing the well-being of others and contributing to community development initiatives, individuals can build networks, establish trust, and create a positive reputation that opens doors to employment opportunities. Integrating critical, creative, and caring thinking empowers individuals to take charge of their career trajectories, adapt to changing market dynamics, and contribute meaningfully to society. By cultivating a mindset that combines analytical rigor, innovative thinking, and ethical considerations, individuals can navigate the challenges of unemployment with resilience and determination. Through this research project, we aim to highlight the transformative potential of critical, creative, and caring thinking in addressing unemployment issues in Nigeria and inspire individuals to embrace these thinking frameworks as they pursue meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 THE BACKGROUND

There is no doubt that the type of education bequeathed to us in Nigeria by our Colonial Masters is devoid of reasoning. From the first Education Ordinance issued by the privy in England to our much cherished national policy on education of 1981 (reversed 1998), the whole idea and aims have been a process of remediation instead of redesign – a camouflage, a cosmetic extrapolation. The British came and faulted every aspect of our life including our system of education only to replace it with their own, with their idea, based on the problems they have at home without taking our own indigenous problems into consideration. Any policy which did not lend support to the achievement of their national goal was jettisoned, repudiated and regarded as a taboo. This is what we saw in our religion, our socio-cultural life, political life, economic life and our education.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Nigeria needs to critical and creative thinking in order to achieve a common goal.
