Project Abstract

              ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to isolate and characterize the oral microbes found in periodontal disease patients at dental clinic of Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu between March to October 2017. The tests carried out was done using blood agar, Mac conkey agar and gram staining technique in which the result showed that organisms responsible for periodontal disease are majorly gram negative anaerobes which includes the Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium, Prevotella intermedia and Tanerella forsythia. The gram positive organisms include the Streptococcus species, Lactobacillus and Actinomyces naeslundii. It was therefore recommended that oral hygiene practice must be emphasized which include mechanical brushing of teeth and regular scaling and polishing.
