Evaluation of the Efficacy of Dental Sealants in Preventing Caries in Pediatric Patients

Project Abstract

This project aims to assess the effectiveness of dental sealants in preventing the development of dental caries in pediatric patients. Dental caries, a common oral health issue, particularly affects children and adolescents, and can lead to significant long-term consequences if left untreated. Dental sealants, a preventive measure that involves the application of a thin, protective coating on the chewing surfaces of the teeth, have been widely used as a strategy to reduce the risk of caries in this population. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of dental sealants in preventing the occurrence of dental caries in pediatric patients over a specific period, typically ranging from one to three years. The study will be conducted in a controlled clinical setting, with participants randomly assigned to either a sealant group or a control group. The sealant group will receive the application of dental sealants on their chewing surfaces, while the control group will not undergo any sealant treatment. The study will employ a combination of clinical examinations, dental imaging, and patient-reported measures to assess the incidence of caries in both groups.
