Project Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the interplay between poverty, corruption, social policy, and social development in Nigeria. Nigeria, as a developing country, faces significant challenges in addressing poverty and promoting social development. The pervasive issue of corruption further exacerbates these challenges, hindering effective social policy implementation and equitable distribution of resources. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of poverty indicators and corruption perception indices with qualitative examination of social policies and their impact on social development in Nigeria. By exploring these interconnected factors, the research seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex dynamics shaping Nigeria's socio-economic landscape. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on poverty, corruption, social policy, and social development in Nigeria. By shedding light on the underlying mechanisms driving these phenomena, the research aims to inform evidence-based policy interventions that can effectively address poverty, combat corruption, and promote inclusive social development in the country. Key themes that will be explored include the impact of poverty on social development outcomes, the role of corruption in exacerbating poverty and undermining social policy effectiveness, and the potential of targeted social policies to mitigate the negative effects of poverty and corruption on social development in Nigeria. Additionally, the study will examine the influence of political and institutional factors on the formulation and implementation of social policies aimed at alleviating poverty and promoting social development. Through a comprehensive analysis of these interrelated factors, this research project seeks to offer insights that can inform policy decisions and interventions aimed at addressing poverty, corruption, and social development challenges in Nigeria. By highlighting the importance of evidence-based policymaking and effective governance in promoting social development, the study aims to contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable development in developing countries.
