Project Abstract

The management of personal affairs in correctional facilities is a critical aspect of ensuring security, order, and rehabilitation among inmates. This research focuses on personal management in Ado-Ekiti Prisons, Nigeria, exploring the practices, challenges, and potential solutions in this context. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys, interviews, and direct observations to gather data from both inmates and prison staff. The findings reveal a range of personal management practices in Ado-Ekiti Prisons, including inmate classification, daily routines, and access to basic necessities. However, several challenges were identified, such as overcrowding, inadequate resources, and limited access to healthcare services. These challenges have implications for the security and well-being of both inmates and staff. To address these issues, the study recommends several strategies for improving personal management in Ado-Ekiti Prisons. These include enhancing staff training on inmate relations, increasing resources for healthcare and basic needs, and developing programs to support inmate rehabilitation and reintegration. By implementing these recommendations, Ado-Ekiti Prisons can enhance security, promote rehabilitation, and ultimately contribute to a safer and more effective correctional system in Nigeria. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of personal management in correctional facilities and provides valuable insights for policymakers, prison administrators, and other stakeholders involved in the criminal justice system. By addressing the challenges identified in this study and implementing the recommended strategies, Ado-Ekiti Prisons can improve the management of personal affairs, enhance inmate well-being, and promote positive outcomes for both inmates and the community at large.
