Project Abstract
The management of crowds in Nigerian airports presents a significant challenge due to the increasing air travel demand and limited infrastructure capacity. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has shown great potential in improving crowd control and management in various sectors, including transportation. This research project aims to investigate the impact of ICT in crowd control and management at Nigerian airports. The study will involve a comprehensive review of existing literature on crowd control, airport operations, and the utilization of ICT in similar contexts globally. By examining successful case studies of ICT applications in crowd management at airports in other countries, the research will identify best practices that can be adapted to the Nigerian airport environment. Furthermore, the project will involve field visits to selected Nigerian airports to assess the current crowd control measures in place and evaluate the level of ICT integration. Surveys and interviews will be conducted with airport authorities, staff, and passengers to gather data on existing challenges, perceptions, and expectations regarding crowd management. The research will also explore the potential benefits of implementing ICT solutions such as automated passenger flow monitoring systems, real-time data analytics, and communication platforms for crowd control in Nigerian airports. By analyzing the data collected and comparing it with international standards, the study aims to provide recommendations for improving crowd management strategies through ICT integration. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the role of ICT in enhancing crowd control and management in airport settings. The results will be valuable for airport authorities, policymakers, and ICT providers seeking to optimize operations, enhance passenger experience, and ensure safety and security in Nigerian airports. Overall, this project seeks to address a critical need for innovative solutions to manage crowds efficiently in Nigerian airports. By leveraging the potential of ICT tools and strategies, the research aims to offer practical insights and recommendations that can lead to enhanced crowd control measures, improved operational efficiency, and a better travel experience for passengers in Nigerian airports.
