Project Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the perceptions of co-workers towards ex-convicts in the workplace. The study seeks to explore how individuals who have previously been incarcerated are viewed by their colleagues, the factors that influence these perceptions, and the potential impact on work dynamics and relationships. Understanding co-workers' perceptions of ex-convicts is crucial for creating a supportive and inclusive work environment that promotes successful reintegration and reduces stigma. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The surveys will assess co-workers' attitudes towards ex-convicts, their willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds, and any concerns or reservations they may have. The qualitative interviews will provide deeper insights into the underlying reasons for these perceptions, including personal experiences, stereotypes, and workplace dynamics. By examining co-workers' perceptions of ex-convicts, this study aims to identify potential barriers to successful reintegration and opportunities for intervention. The findings will contribute to the development of strategies and policies that promote inclusivity, reduce discrimination, and support the successful transition of individuals with criminal histories back into the workforce. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on an important but understudied aspect of reintegration and rehabilitation. By understanding how co-workers perceive ex-convicts in the workplace, we can work towards creating more supportive and inclusive work environments that benefit both employees with criminal backgrounds and their colleagues. Addressing stigma and negative perceptions is essential for promoting successful reintegration, reducing recidivism, and fostering a culture of acceptance and support in the workplace.
