Project Abstract
Inter-library loan services have been a crucial resource for libraries to provide access to materials not available in their collections. However, the advent of full-text databases has significantly influenced the landscape of inter-library loan services. This research project aims to explore the impact of full-text databases on inter-library loan services in academic libraries. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Quantitative data will be collected through the analysis of inter-library loan statistics before and after the implementation of full-text databases in participating libraries. This will provide insights into changes in borrowing patterns, turnaround times, and costs associated with inter-library loan requests. Qualitative data will be collected through interviews with library staff involved in inter-library loan services. These interviews will focus on the perceived benefits and challenges of using full-text databases in the context of inter-library loan services. Additionally, the study will explore how libraries have adapted their inter-library loan policies and procedures in response to the availability of full-text databases. The findings of this research project will contribute to a better understanding of the impact of full-text databases on inter-library loan services. By examining changes in borrowing patterns, turnaround times, and costs, the study will provide insights into the efficiency and effectiveness of inter-library loan services in the digital age. Furthermore, the qualitative data collected through interviews will offer valuable perspectives from library staff directly involved in managing inter-library loan requests. Ultimately, this research project seeks to inform best practices for integrating full-text databases into inter-library loan services. By identifying the benefits and challenges associated with the use of full-text databases, libraries can make informed decisions about resource allocation and collection development strategies. The study also aims to highlight areas where further research is needed to optimize the utilization of full-text databases in inter-library loan services. In conclusion, the impact of full-text databases on inter-library loan services is a complex and evolving area that warrants further investigation. This research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on this topic and provide practical insights for libraries seeking to enhance their inter-library loan services in the digital age.
