Project Abstract
Online examination systems have become increasingly popular due to their efficiency and convenience in conducting assessments. This research project focuses on the design and implementation of an online examination system for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The UTME is a standardized test in Nigeria that determines admission into tertiary institutions. The aim of this project is to develop a user-friendly, secure, and reliable online platform for conducting the UTME. The system will allow candidates to register, schedule exams, and take tests remotely, thereby reducing the logistical challenges associated with traditional paper-based examinations. Security measures such as user authentication, encryption, and anti-cheating mechanisms will be implemented to maintain the integrity of the examination process. The design phase involves the creation of a user interface that is intuitive and easy to navigate. Candidates should be able to access the system from various devices such as computers, tablets, and smartphones. The backend of the system will include a database to store candidate information, exam questions, and results securely. The implementation phase will involve testing the system with a pilot group of users to identify any technical issues or usability concerns. Feedback from the pilot test will be used to make necessary adjustments and improvements to the system. Key features of the online examination system will include automated question randomization to prevent cheating, timed exams to ensure fairness, and instant feedback for candidates upon completion of the test. The system will also generate detailed reports for exam administrators to analyze and track candidate performance. Overall, the implementation of an online examination system for the UTME will streamline the examination process, reduce costs associated with paper-based exams, and provide a more convenient and accessible testing experience for candidates. By leveraging technology, this project aims to modernize the UTME assessment process and improve the overall efficiency of conducting examinations in Nigeria.

Design and implementation of online-examination of unified tertiary matriculation examination

Abstract

Registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, is organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This registration is conducted in all the states in Nigeria in a given period of the year. Many a times, the process is cumbersome, not organized and posses a lot of stress to students. So, the goal of this project is to provide a readily accessible and user-friendly system for students to register for UTME online and also to access the result of the examination online. This would be similar to other online registration forms, but it will also feature the following advantages; as a web-based system, students will be able to have access from any computer that has a web browser and is connected to the Internet to register for UTME, with a graphical interface, this system will be more user-friendly and intuitive to use. The introduction of on-line registration was an enormous improvement over the old, cumbersome paper-based method. In the course of implementing the software, HTML and Visual Basic 6.0 was used to design an online examination registration and result checking form for UTME.
