Project Abstract

The construction industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental degradation and resource depletion, with concrete being the most widely used construction material. In response to the growing concerns about sustainability, there has been an increasing interest in incorporating sustainable materials into reinforced concrete structures to enhance their durability and reduce their environmental impact. This research project aims to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of integrating sustainable materials, such as recycled aggregates, industrial by-products, and alternative binders, in reinforced concrete structures to improve their performance and longevity. The findings suggest that incorporating recycled aggregates, industrial by-products, and alternative binders can improve the performance and longevity of concrete structures while promoting sustainability in the construction industry. Future research should focus on optimizing the mix designs, scaling up the production, and addressing the challenges associated with using sustainable materials in concrete construction. Keywords sustainable materials, reinforced concrete structures, durability, environmental impact, recycled aggregates, industrial by-products, alternative binders, sustainability, construction industry.
