Project Abstract
Hostel accommodation in higher institutions is a critical issue that affects the overall well-being and academic performance of students. This research focuses on the problems of hostel accommodation at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study aims to identify and analyze the challenges faced by students living in hostels on campus to provide insights for addressing these issues effectively. The research adopts a mixed-method approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Surveys will be conducted among students residing in hostels at IMT to gather information on their experiences and satisfaction levels with the accommodation facilities. Additionally, interviews will be conducted with relevant stakeholders, including hostel managers and university officials, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the underlying problems. Preliminary findings indicate several key problems with hostel accommodation at IMT, including overcrowding, poor sanitation, inadequate security measures, and lack of basic amenities. These challenges have a significant impact on the quality of life and academic performance of students, leading to increased stress and discomfort. The research also explores the implications of these problems on the overall well-being of students, highlighting the need for urgent interventions to improve hostel accommodation facilities. By addressing these issues, higher institutions like IMT can create a conducive living environment that supports students' academic success and personal development. The study further examines potential solutions to the problems identified, including infrastructure upgrades, increased security measures, and better management practices. By implementing these recommendations, IMT and other higher institutions can enhance the quality of hostel accommodation and create a more positive living experience for students. In conclusion, the problems of hostel accommodation in higher institutions, as exemplified by IMT in Enugu State, pose significant challenges that require immediate attention. By conducting this research and highlighting the key issues, we aim to contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve hostel facilities and create a more conducive environment for student learning and growth.
