Project Abstract
This research focuses on the impact of strike action on the achievement of trade union aims within an organization, with a specific case study of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Enugu. The study delves into the dynamics of trade unions and their strategies in pursuit of organizational goals, particularly through the use of strike actions. The research aims to investigate how strike actions have influenced the attainment of trade union objectives, specifically within the context of the NUT in Enugu. The methodology employed in this research is primarily qualitative, utilizing interviews, surveys, and document analysis to gather data on the historical and current use of strike actions by the NUT in Enugu. By examining the motivations behind strike actions, the outcomes achieved, and the broader implications for the organization and its stakeholders, this study seeks to provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of strikes on trade union aims. The findings of this research reveal that strike actions have played a significant role in shaping the bargaining power and influence of the NUT in Enugu. Through strikes, the union has been able to negotiate better working conditions, higher wages, and improved benefits for its members. However, the research also highlights some of the challenges and limitations associated with strike actions, including negative public perception, potential legal repercussions, and disruptions to educational services. Overall, this study contributes to the existing literature on trade unions and strike actions by providing a nuanced understanding of how these tactics influence the achievement of organizational aims. By focusing on the specific case of the NUT in Enugu, this research offers insights that can inform future strategies and decision-making within the trade union movement. Ultimately, the findings of this study underscore the complex interplay between strike actions, trade union objectives, and organizational outcomes, highlighting the multifaceted nature of labor relations in contemporary Nigeria.
