Project Abstract
Information Communication Technology (ICT) has become a vital tool for enhancing productivity in various sectors, including small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). This research explores the impact of ICT on SME productivity in Nigeria, focusing on how technology adoption influences operational efficiency and business growth. The study employs a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather data from SME owners and managers in different sectors across Nigeria. The findings indicate that SMEs that effectively integrate ICT into their operations experience significant improvements in productivity levels. ICT tools such as business management software, communication platforms, and online marketing tools play a crucial role in streamlining processes, reducing operational costs, and reaching a wider customer base. However, challenges such as high initial investment costs, inadequate ICT infrastructure, and limited digital skills among SME owners hinder the full realization of ICT benefits. Furthermore, the research highlights the importance of tailored ICT solutions that are adapted to the specific needs and capabilities of SMEs in Nigeria. Customized training programs and government support initiatives are identified as critical factors in promoting ICT adoption and enhancing productivity in the SME sector. Additionally, the study emphasizes the role of ICT in enabling SMEs to compete more effectively in the global market, expand their customer base, and enhance overall business performance. Overall, the research underscores the transformative impact of ICT on SME productivity in Nigeria and underscores the need for sustained efforts to address barriers to technology adoption. By leveraging ICT tools effectively, SMEs can improve their competitiveness, efficiency, and innovation capabilities, contributing to economic growth and job creation in the country. Policymakers, business support organizations, and ICT providers are encouraged to collaborate in creating an enabling environment that fosters ICT adoption and utilization among SMEs, ultimately driving sustainable development and prosperity in Nigeria's business landscape.
