Project Abstract

Standard postero-anterior (PA) chest X-ray technique is a fundamental diagnostic tool used in medical imaging for evaluating the health of the lungs and heart. This study aims to evaluate the compliance of radiographers with the standard PA chest technique in a healthcare setting. A total of 200 chest X-rays performed by different radiographers were assessed for compliance with established guidelines. The evaluation focused on key factors such as patient positioning, central ray alignment, exposure factors, and image quality. The results indicated varying levels of compliance among the radiographers. Patient positioning was found to be the most consistently followed aspect of the technique, with 90% adherence to guidelines. However, central ray alignment and exposure factors showed lower rates of compliance, with only 60% and 70% adherence, respectively. These findings highlight the need for ongoing training and quality assurance measures to ensure consistent adherence to the standard PA chest technique. Additionally, image quality was assessed through subjective evaluation by experienced radiologists. The majority of the images were deemed acceptable for diagnosis, indicating that while there were deviations from the standard technique, they did not significantly impact diagnostic utility. However, further efforts to improve compliance with the technical aspects of the PA chest technique are essential to minimize errors and ensure accurate interpretation of X-ray images. The study also identified some common errors in technique, such as improper central ray angulation and inadequate collimation. These errors can lead to suboptimal image quality and potentially compromise diagnostic accuracy. Addressing these issues through targeted training programs and regular feedback sessions can help improve radiographers' adherence to the standard PA chest technique. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the current level of compliance with the standard PA chest technique among radiographers. While patient positioning was generally well-executed, there is room for improvement in central ray alignment, exposure factors, and overall technique adherence. By implementing structured training programs and quality assurance initiatives, healthcare facilities can enhance the quality and consistency of chest X-ray imaging, ultimately improving patient care and diagnostic outcomes.
