Disasters, both natural and man-made, pose a significant threat to the population and infrastructure of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The need for a dedicated Disaster Management Center in Port Harcourt is crucial to effectively mitigate, respond to, and recover from such events. This research project aims to highlight the necessity and benefits of establishing a Disaster Management Center in Port Harcourt. The key objectives of this research include assessing the current state of disaster preparedness and management in Port Harcourt, identifying the specific hazards and risks faced by the region, and evaluating existing resources and capacities for disaster response. Through a comprehensive literature review and case studies of similar cities with established disaster management centers, this research will provide valuable insights into best practices and strategies for effective disaster management. Furthermore, this study will involve consultation with relevant stakeholders including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, emergency responders, and community representatives to gather input and support for the establishment of a Disaster Management Center in Port Harcourt. By engaging with these key stakeholders, the research aims to build consensus and create a framework for the development and implementation of the center. The research will also explore the potential challenges and barriers to setting up a Disaster Management Center in Port Harcourt, such as financial constraints, institutional coordination, and public awareness. By addressing these challenges proactively, the project seeks to develop realistic and sustainable solutions that can overcome these obstacles and ensure the successful establishment of the center.
