Project Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the effects of implementing various feeding strategies on the growth and development of dairy calves. The rearing phase of dairy calves is crucial in determining their future productivity as dairy cows. Proper nutrition during this phase is essential for optimal growth, health, and overall performance. However, there is a lack of consensus on the most effective feeding strategies for dairy calves, leading to variations in practices across different farms and regions. This study seeks to address this gap by examining the impact of different feeding approaches on the growth and development of dairy calves. The research will be conducted using a randomized controlled trial design, with dairy calves randomly assigned to different feeding groups. The feeding strategies to be investigated will include traditional milk replacer feeding, enhanced milk replacer formulations, and introduction of solid feeds at varying ages. The growth parameters to be assessed will include average daily weight gain, body condition score, and height at withers. Additionally, blood samples will be collected to analyze key metabolic markers associated with growth and development. The study will be conducted over a period of 6 months, with regular monitoring and data collection at predetermined intervals. Statistical analysis will be performed to compare the growth outcomes among the different feeding groups. The results of this research will provide valuable insights into the impact of feeding strategies on the growth and development of dairy calves, helping dairy farmers and industry stakeholders make informed decisions regarding calf nutrition management. In conclusion, this research project will contribute to enhancing the understanding of the effects of feeding strategies on the growth and development of dairy calves.
