Climate change poses a significant threat to agricultural productivity globally, particularly affecting smallholder farmers in developing countries like Nigeria. This research study investigates the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers in Nigeria, focusing on the challenges they face and potential adaptation strategies. The study utilizes a case study approach to gain in-depth insights into the experiences of smallholder farmers in selected regions of Nigeria. The research begins with a comprehensive introduction that outlines the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the research, and key definitions. A thorough literature review in Chapter Two explores existing knowledge on climate change impacts on agriculture, smallholder farming practices, and adaptation strategies. This chapter discusses ten key themes related to the research topic, providing a theoretical framework for the study. Chapter Three details the research methodology, including the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations in conducting research with smallholder farmers and justifies the chosen methodology for this study. The research methodology chapter comprises eight key components that guide the empirical investigation. In Chapter Four, the findings of the research are presented and discussed in detail. Seven key findings emerged from the data analysis, highlighting the specific challenges faced by smallholder farmers in Nigeria due to climate change. The chapter also examines the adaptation strategies employed by farmers to mitigate the impact of climate change on their agricultural productivity. Finally, Chapter Five offers a conclusion and summary of the research project. The chapter synthesizes the key findings, discusses their implications for smallholder farmers in Nigeria, and offers recommendations for policy interventions and future research directions. The conclusion underscores the importance of addressing climate change challenges in the agricultural sector to ensure food security and sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers in Nigeria.
