The Impact of Climate Change on Agricultural Productivity: A Case Study of Smallholder Farmers in Nigeria.

Project Abstract

Climate change poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity, particularly for smallholder farmers in Nigeria. This research study investigates the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers in Nigeria. The study aims to assess the various effects of climate change on agricultural activities, identify the key challenges faced by smallholder farmers, and explore potential adaptation strategies to mitigate these challenges. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from smallholder farmers in selected regions of Nigeria. A sample size of 300 smallholder farmers will be randomly selected to participate in the study. Data will be analyzed using statistical tools and thematic analysis to identify patterns, trends, and key findings. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity in Nigeria. The results will provide insights into the specific challenges faced by smallholder farmers, including changes in rainfall patterns, temperature fluctuations, and extreme weather events. Moreover, the study will highlight the adaptation strategies employed by smallholder farmers to cope with these challenges, such as the use of drought-resistant crops, water conservation techniques, and sustainable farming practices.
