Project Abstract

<p><br>Renewable energy sources have huge potential to meet the energy demands of agricultural sector in a sustainable manner. The current study aims to evaluate different renewable energy technologies suitable for on-farm power generation and their technical and economic feasibility. A survey was conducted among farmers to understand their current energy usage patterns and willingness to adopt renewable systems. Based on agro-climatic conditions, solar, wind, biogas and micro-hydel options were shortlisted for detailed analysis. Life cycle costing and energy generation estimates were calculated for different system configurations and payback periods were derived. The results showed that solar PV followed by biogas systems were most viable options for small and marginal farmers. Policy support was recommended to promote widespread adoption of renewable energy in agriculture.<br><br><br></p>
